Thank you

Yesterday's news that Palm has canceled the Foleo was, to say the least, a little bit surprising. As you know, the Foleo was very close to being completed and released.

I was reviewing the traffic logs for Foleo Fanatics this morning and discovered that September 4th was the single busiest day for the site. Thank you for your continued support. As I stated yesterday, I will continue to cover the news and provide analysis on the Palm community.

I would also like to thank all of the folks who emailed me and left comments here on Foleo Fanatics. I know many of us were looking forward to being able to use a Foleo, either as a companion to the Treo or as a stand alone computer, in the coming weeks.

For Palm, their immediate priorities should be to complete the work on "Palm OS II", complete the work on the first smart device (be it a Treo or Centro) that will run that operating system, test it, and deliver a stable product platform for their customers. As I stated in last week's 1SRC.com Editorial, Mobile Linux - The Key to Device Interoperability, it is important for Palm to have synergies between devices. The decision by Palm to move resources off the Foleo I project and on to a new Linux OS and smartphones is a signal that Palm understands their the current marketplace and is now executing a plan to realign their business with the market.

A pity about the Foleo: a zero-admin laptop is a *great* idea ...and IMO a much bigger selling point than "instant-on, i mean even Windows laptops wake up from sleep really quickly.

On to the future: anyone know what *is* Palm OS II? Is there a roadmap or spec anywhere? Thanks

Palm, like Apple and many other tech companies, does not publicly release their detailed product road map.

Palm did however, did present a number of slides providing the community a general direction of where they are going during their April 2007 Analyst Day meeting in New York City.

What would you buy today, to do mobile web-browsing? Suppose all youdo is sit in Starbucks all day and surf the web, and write entries on blogger. Why shouldn't there be a 10" to 12" screen, full laptop keyboard, wifi, flash-rom containing your web browser and a basic set of productivity and organizer apps? I am sick to death of PDA devices with onboard keyboards.

I want an Iphone on my belt, and a FOLEO in a small leather case, and forget the laptop.

Apple, Palm, someone, HEAR ME! :-)

I'm still a Foleo Fanatic. I hope we don't need wait so long for Foleo II as the blog.palm.com said. Foleo was a good idea to have it at college.

Hey Alan,

Not sure if this will help, but it can't hurt:

Seeing as Palm is betting the bank and their developer loyalty on "Palm OS II", some kind of public road-map is in order. Without one they're just *NOT* credible IMO.

Note I'm asking for an OS roadmap, not a product roadmap.

That wasn't bad. The folks over at ProFoleo seem to be FoleoFanatics too. :D
